Tips for Coloring Your Hair with Naturtint®

  • After applying the colorant, run a wide-tooth comb through your hair to more evenly distribute the color throughout the hair.
  • Wipe off any drips immediately with a cloth dipped in warm water to avoid skin staining. Also immediately wipe up any spills.
  • Place a towel over your shoulders and designate a "hair dye shirt" to wear that you don't mind getting stained when coloring. A button-down or wide-neck T-shirt that can be easily removed is best.
  • Roll up any bath mats that could be dripped on, and tie back curtains in case of splattering.
  • Apply lotion or Vaseline along hairline and around ears (NOT on hair) to prevent staining. If colorant does get on the skin, wipe off with a damp paper towel or tissue as soon as you can to prevent your skin from staining.
  • A bottle with measurements (available at beauty supply stores) is handy for mixing colors, or for using part of a kit.
  • A plastic clip can help hold sections of hair out of the way while dyeing.
  • Use a plastic shower cap to cover head or plastic clip to hold hair in place after application.
  • Perform the Naturtint® sensitivity test and hair color test. It's better to be sure that the color is right for you BEFORE coloring all of your hair.
  • Have a timer handy…time flies!
  • When applying the color, apply to roots first, then continue on to left side, then the right side, top, back and so on. Having an application process helps ensure that all the hair is colored when you are doing it yourself. Be sure to saturate all of your hair so your color is even.
  • Some people find it's easier to apply hair color using a bowl and brush, which are available at beauty supply stores.
